It has the same feel and game mechanic depth of the first game, while having an even slower pace and less interesting levels and enemies. I find it more engaging than many of Capcom's CPS1 titles as well.įF2 is the one I revisit the least though. I consider it one of the best in the genre as far as representation on the snes and genesis are concerned. The movement options alone also just make it a faster feeling game. Between the special command moves and super moves and the optional pathways to clear levels or even skip a boss or two, it just feels more interesting to play. FF3 on the other hand is one I regularly still play. The snes port (standard or Guy version) are both pretty undercooked compared to the arcade as well. There just isn't much to it, and it feels a bit slower outside of the arcade version flooding certain sections with tons of enemies at once. But aside from that, I dont often reach for FF1 when I need a beatemup fix. I also really enjoy the OST from the sega cd port. There really isn't much to it aside from gimmicks to take advantage of in the engine to make the game easier, but it was great for that time period and exceeded what most other companies were doing. The original FF1 arcade version is fun as far as the most basic of beatemups go. People were already beginning to gain interest in 3d games and there was less interest in older 2d genres. For context, thats 3 months after the playstation 1 dropped in North America, and just 9 months shy of the n64. The 3rd game also came somewhat late in the life of the snes in December of 1995. The main reason neither 2 or 3 are discussed as much (and 3 is way better than 2) is because they were exclusive to console and not originating in the arcade like Final Fight 1. I hear a lot of praise for it among beatemup fans.
